The Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-Moon said Tuesday that the children continue to pay a heavy tribute in wartime and asked states to do everything possible to protect them.
The UN chief noted that throughout the world, boys and girls are forcibly recruited by armed groups. “They are tortured, maimed, imprisoned, starved, sexually abused and killed. Their homes and schools destroyed, “he has said, citing countries such as Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
“In Yemen, six times more, children were killed and mutilated in 2015 than the previous year, and five times more, have been recruited to fight,” said the Secretary General.
In June 2016, the UN had withdrawn -under the pressure of Saudis- the coalition led by Saudi Arabia in Yemen of Annex 1 of its report.
This appendix lists the “parties recruiting, using, killing, maiming and abducting children, raping or committing other forms of sexual violence against them, or attacking schools or hospitals in situations of armed conflict the Council UN security has discovered it.”
The reports issued by human rights organizations said that the Saudi regime for its aggression against Yemen did not even hesitate to bomb schools and hospitals.
